VA to view site for national cemetery in Columbia.

Feb. 6--Veterans Affairs officials are expected to visit Columbia later this month to survey a proposed site for a new national cemetery at Fort Jackson.

Up to 500 acres on the fort's perimeter near Clemson Road and I-20 have been proposed for the cemetery, said George Goldsmith, chairman of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce's military affairs committee.

"I think we've got a very, very appealing proposal," said Goldsmith, a retired Army Reserve major general.
