Feb. 8--AIDS Athens is hoping to raise HIV and AIDS awareness among Athens' black community by enlisting hair stylists and barbers to become part-time AIDS/HIV educators.
The group had hoped to have a training session for hair professionals Monday, which was "Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day," but not enough people signed up, said AIDS Athens executive director Art Ordoqui.
But AIDS Athens will continue the campaign by approaching hair salons and barbershops one by one, said Jermaine Sims, AIDS Athens' prevention and outreach coordinator.
