UnumProvident's former Maine employees are owed vacation pay, judge says.

Feb. 1--An estimated 1,400 former UnumProvident Corp. employees in Maine may be affected by a judge's ruling stating they should have received pay for vacation time when they left the company.

Adam Taylor, a Portland, Maine, attorney for former UnumProvident workers, said individual payouts will likely average about $1,000 each.

With damages, interest and other costs, the company's liability could be in the millions of dollars, he said.

A UnumProvident spokeswoman said, however, that the insurer disagrees with the ruling Cumberland County Superior Court …
