Feb. 1--Time Warner Cable is about to offer its customers AOL -- for free. In a bid to rack up more high-speed customers, Time Warner Cable said it will package America Online with its Road Runner Internet service, at no extra charge.

The new Road Runner plus AOL will be made available to Time Warner Cable New York subscribers in a few months.

A national rollout of the new service will begin this week in Raleigh, N. C.

The deal brings together two longtime rivals, AOL and Time Warner Cable's Road Runner, both part of the Time Warner empire.
