JACKSONVILLE, Fla. _ Members of the media camped outside overnight at Alltel Stadium in order to get within listening distance for Monday morning's Terrell Owens news conference.
All right, that's a writer's embellishment, and the T.O. Super Bowl story needs embellishing about as much as Freddie Mitchell needs another enemy from the New England Patriots.
But when the circus that is Media Day commences at the site of Sunday's big game, the Eagles' mending wide receiver will be the center-ring attraction. Men and women with cameras, microphones and notebooks will stage a clinic on how to box out that would make Moses Malone proud.
Owens practiced with the team Monday for the first time since suffering his leg and ankle injury Dec. 19, when he was violently taken down from behind by Cowboys safety Roy Williams.
Tuesday, he will field questions for the first time since Mark Myerson, the orthopedic surgeon who placed two screws in his right ankle, declined to give him medical clearance to play in Super Bowl XXXIX.
Owens has said several times since then that he is going to play, but he has not elaborated. All signs continued to point toward his return, although his role is likely to remain a mystery until game day.
