WASHINGTON _ Larry Brown tried to set the record straight on the grounds of the White House on Monday afternoon. Brown, echoing comments he made Sunday to Detroit Free Press columnist Mitch Albom, told the Pistons press corps:

He had no intention of leaving the Pistons at the end of the season to coach the New York Knicks.

He expected the Pistons to be his final stop as a professional basketball coach.

He did tell the New York Post that coaching the Knicks was his dream job_growing up as a youngster in New York.

Brown said he didn't address the coaching issue Saturday night after the Pistons' 91-61 victory over the Knicks at the Palace because he had just learned he had been fined $35,000 by the NBA. The penalty was for saying the Pistons were cheated by officials at the end of the last Monday's game at Minnesota.

``I didn't put my name out there,'' Brown said. ``I'm going to coach in Detroit. Detroit is my last pro coaching job, unless when I'm 85 and my kids are grown and gone and somebody's foolish enough to ask me to help.
