KANSAS CITY, Mo. _ She speaks anxiously. She stammers. She doesn't want to talk. She still struggles. She thinks about him and cries.

Saturday night bothered her. The Lee's Summit Chamber of Commerce auctioned off a baseball and a bat autographed by Darrell Porter. They sat on the same table as an auto-detail gift certificate and a Valentine's gift basket. Together the bat and ball fetched $355. To Deanne Porter, someone put a price on her husband.

"How would you feel if it was your family's things?'' she says.

Darrell Porter, distinguished for almost 22 years, died Aug. 5, 2002, in La Benite Park. They don't know ...
