Jan. 31--Two-thirds of the 46 children in Lisa Schneller's afternoon and morning kindergarten classes have a parent serving in Iraq.

Amid the wondrous contents of her well-ordered classroom at Beachwood Elementary School on North Fort Lewis, that fact tries daily to push itself between the kids and the fun of learning.

The kids cannot go home and tell Daddy -- all of the deployed parents of the afternoon class I visited are daddies -- about the little things that add up to a good educational start. They can't rattle off that they learned "a couple" means…
