DETROIT _ Pistons coach Larry Brown _ with the New York media in town and with a chance to squelch rumors that he's interested in leaving at the end of this season to take over as coach of the Knicks _ did something Saturday night that he hadn't done all year.

Brown didn't speak to the media during the pre-game news conference, then he skipped the postgame news conference, sending assistant Gar Heard instead.

When asked where Brown was, the public relations department said Brown wasn't feeling well.

When asked if Brown had the New York flu, Heard said: "Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just doing what I was asked." …
