'Grand Theft Auto' maker buys sports game development firm.

Jan. 27--Take Two Interactive Software is swinging for the fences.

The Manhattan-based video game maker, best known for its controversial "Grand Theft Auto" series, said it has paid $24 million to Sega Corp. to buy Visual Concepts, the California-based developer of several hit sports games.

Analysts said that move, combined with Monday's announcement that Take Two had acquired limited exclusive rights to Major League Baseball players' likenesses, is a strong sign the company is looking to take on Electronic Arts, the world's largest video game maker and dominant leader …
