Jan. 25--When Marilyn Tang applied for a loan to start a business in 1967, she had hands-on experience and a sound business plan, but her application was rejected because she lacked one thing: a husband to co-sign the loan. Unphased, Tang borrowed money from her boyfriend and parents to start her company and was profitable enough to repay them in six months.
