Jan. 19--The East Bay manufacturing industry appears to be on the comeback trail after several years in the dumps.

For the first time since 2000, manufacturers have added jobs in the East Bay. The East Bay's gains of 400 factory jobs during 2004 ended three consecutive years of employment losses for manufacturing in the region.

The hopeful signs for manufacturers in Alameda and Contra Costa counties emerge as local government and business leaders gather today to assess the health of the region's industrial base. The area's Workforce Development Board is sponsoring a …
