Jan. 18--A major commercial developer plans to bring a 40,000-square-foot retail center to a 4-acre parcel along Whiskey Road in Aiken.

Aiken-based WRS Inc. said Monday it acquired the Aiken Church of Christ property at the corner of Whiskey Road and South Centennial Avenue, across the street from the Wal-Mart Supercenter.

WRS said the "The Shoppes at Whiskey" would contain storefronts ranging from 1,200- to 10,000-square-feet. The center will also have room for an outparcel development facing Whiskey Road.
