Waldenbooks to leave Rochester, Minn., in January.

Jan. 12--Waldenbooks, which has been in business at the Miracle Mile Shopping Center in Rochester for a quarter-century, will close on Jan. 22.

"We had a chance to renew our lease, and we decided not to continue it," said Holley Stein, spokeswoman for Borders Group Inc. of Ann Arbor, Mich., which owns the chain.

The closing of Waldenbooks takes the last national competitor to Barnes & Noble out of the Rochester market. A few independents still exist, but just weeks ago Miracle Mile also lost the Pied Piper children's bookstore after several years of business. …
