Jan. 13--HealthNow New York has established a nonprofit foundation to support health-care research and efforts to improve health care quality and access in upstate New York.

The Buffalo-based parent of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York formed the Foundation for Healthy Living in December as a separate philanthropic research affiliate, but announced it only this week. It has already been doing grant work for six months.

Unlike many health care foundations established by other insurers, this one will not dole out millions of dollars in grants. Rather, it will seek money from …
