Jan. 13--NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Four full-time officers of Local 8888 of the United Steelworkers of America would see their pay rise under proposed changes to the union's bylaws to be considered at a membership meeting Saturday.

The proposal one of several changes to be considered at the meeting would lift the compensation for officials at the region's largest labor union to 48 hours of pay a week rather than the 40 hours they get now, union members said.

If the change passes, it would raise the salaries of union president Alton H. Glass Sr., grievance chairman Danny Keefer, financial secretary …
