PALO ALTO, Calif. _ It had looked so easy for Deena Drossin on Thursday night in a 10,000-meter race she was using primarily as a training run.
Sure, Drossin needed to finish in the top three to make the U.S. team for the August world championships, but that hardly was a challenge, given her dominance of the event in this country.
Cementing her newly established reputation as one of the greatest woman distance runners in U.S. history, Drossin won her third national title by nearly seven seconds, thanked the crowd at Stanford's Cobb Track over the public address system and then didn't show up for her news conference.
