Jul. 7--Qualifying first-time homeowners are eligible for $442,000 in state money that they do not have to repay.
A total of 128 eligible low- and moderate-income households in St. Clair County will receive funding through the St. Clair County Homebuyers Association. Each household can collect between $3,000 and $5,000 for a down payment and closing costs toward a house.
The grant will make a tremendous impact, said Ken Hise, manager of the community development division of the St. Clair County Intergovernmental Grants Department.
