WASHINGTON _ The man blamed for the deadliest terrorist attacks in U.S. history appeared to the world via videotape on the eve of their second anniversary, while a separate audio track purportedly containing his voice praised the suicide hijackers of Sept. 11.
The video, showing Osama bin Laden and his top deputy carrying rifles and wearing garb traditional to Afghanistan and Pakistan, was the first new footage of the al-Qaida leader aired since April 15, 2002. But there was no way to determine when the tape, filmed in a mountainous region, was originally shot.
Intelligence analysts were poring over the video and audio, "digging into the message, digging into the topography and examining all things visible and audible for whatever clues can be gleaned," a U.S. intelligence official said…
