MILWAUKEE _ More than 200 congratulatory messages were waiting for David Roesch when he returned home from the U.S. Open last week. He dutifully returned every call and answered every e-mail.
"LeRoy Butler even called," Roesch said of the former Green Bay Packers safety. "He was, like, `Man, Dave, that was great.' We played in a Hooters Tour pro-am and I guess he took a liking to me."
Thousands of golf fans across the country took a liking to Roesch, a 30-year-old mini-tour pro from Menomonee Falls who came out of nowhere to contend in the U.S. Open for two-plus rounds. He finished in a tie for 31st place.
