DALLAS _ Asian Indians should take extra care to keep their weight down, Dallas researchers say. The recommendation comes from a new study showing that even when thin, this ethnic group behaves metabolically like whites who are overweight. This puts Asian Indians at a higher risk for diabetes and heart disease.
People of Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi descent "may not have to have as much weight gain as Caucasians to get in trouble," said Dr. Manisha Chandalia, an endocrinologist at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.
