Byline: Lezlie Patterson
``Second Chance'' by Danielle Steel; Delacorte Press ($20)
___
"Second Chance" reads exactly like a Danielle Steel novel. With good reason. The formula, style and plots used by the popular author obviously resound with many readers, but for some, her books read too much like television movies and are often too depressing.
"Second Chance" is an easy and quick read, but it has too much romantic sadness and depression before the happily-ever-after. And yes, there is a happily-ever-after, and perhaps it's more dramatic and impassioned because of the dismal turn the relationship takes for about 40 pages.
John and Fiona meet and have a rather quick courtship before John persuades Fiona to marry him. She has concerns, doesn't want to move too fast and worries that he'll end up regretting the hasty decision, but he overrides her objections and persuades her.
Guess what?
