David Beatson is rapidly remaking Panalpina's presence in North America and says his aggressive overhaul will soon translate into an aggressive plan to expand the forwarder in the world's largest air freight market.

The effort will include expanding Panalpina's sales force in the region by 50 percent, looking for acquisitions, building trans-Pacific trade and--most surprisingly--a domestic forwarding service.

"We expect to build a domestic product by the end of the second quarter," Beatson said in an interview six months into his job as president of the new North American unit of the Swiss forwarding giant. "We will move traffic domestically and as a …
