Designing and managing the power in mission critical spaces such as network server rooms and data centers is a complicated exercise that gets more complicated with each new stage of technology. The industry generally recognizes the difficulty of planning power capacity using nameplate, of specification, data to size a critical power infrastructure that may include generators, UPS systems, and a power distribution system. The "worst case" numbers manufacturers provide (for UL and code reasons) frequently produce network critical physical infrastructures (NCPI) that are oversized, underutilized, and excessively expensive to build and maintain.
