PASADENA, Calif. _ It was his day to give, but mostly, it was his day to receive.
USC's Matt Leinart spent most of his first Rose Bowl throwing touchdown passes, but it was the one he caught on a gadget play for the ages that cinched it for him.
The 15-yard, third-quarter floater from the guy he usually directs his passes to, Mike Williams, allowed him to stand there on the podium of his dreams afterward and receive something even more important - the glittering trophy awarded to the Player of the Game.
"I told them (the coaches) just call it, I'll catch it," Leinart on Thursday said of the trick play, after directing the Trojans to a 28-14 victory against Michigan and a share of their first national championship since 1978. "I was wide open, too."
