TEMPE, Ariz. _ Kansas State quarterback Ell Roberson is accused of sexually assaulting a woman early Thursday in the team's hotel in Arizona. Police in Paradise Valley, a Phoenix suburb, said they questioned Roberson on Thursday afternoon. He has not been charged.
Kansas State athletic director Tim Weiser said coach Bill Snyder will decide if Roberson plays in Friday night's game, the most prestigious bowl in school history.
Neither Snyder nor Roberson released a statement Thursday and would not comment.
Paradise Valley Lt. Ron Warner said the accuser is a K-State graduate from Kansas in Phoenix for the game. The alleged incident occurred at 3:30 a.m. MST on Thursday, Warner said Police were first notified at about 4:30 a.m. "The young woman said she went to the player's hotel room, and she (later) accused him of sexually assaulting her," Warner said. "There was no physical evidence in the room, and there were no physical injuries."
Warner said Roberson was brought to the police station at about noon for questioning. Warner told the Associated Press that Roberson said he had consensual sex with the woman. Roberson later attended a walk-through practice at Sun Devil Stadium.
The police report should be completed "by early next week," Warner said. It will be forwarded to the Maricopa County attorney's office, which will decide if there is sufficient evidence to file charges.
