DALLAS _ It's been another week of Elimania at the 68th Cotton Bowl Classic, with the Ole Miss quarterback getting most of the headlines as the Rebels get ready to play in their first traditional New Year's Day bowl since the 1970 Sugar Bowl.
Eli Manning is used to it.
It seems the Oklahoma State Cowboys are, too.
"Everybody talks about playing hard, and getting the sack, or getting the interception off of Manning," Oklahoma State safety Vernon Grant said. "I just look forward to playing against him."
Manning guided the Rebels to a 9-3 regular season and a share of the Southeastern Conference's Western Division title. A loss to eventual SEC champion LSU, however, cost the Rebels a shot at a berth in the Bowl Championship Series; Nick Saban's LSU squad will play for the BCS national title on Sunday night in the Sugar Bowl.
Manning's career has been defined by his farewell season at Ole Miss. By the same token, however, if the Rebels are going to complete their first 10-win season since 1971, they're going to need a strong performance from a defense that showed significant improvement over the second half of the season.
