SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. _ When Darren Sproles weighed 10 pounds at birth, Larry and Annette Sproles had to be overjoyed.

After all, Larry Sproles stands just 5-foot-3 and Annette is 5-5.

It probably didn't take his parents long to realize that Sproles had their genes. Fortunately, Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder didn't care.

The junior running back said KSU trainers tell him he's 5-7 and 183 pounds. But the mighty mite has become the Wildcats' sparkplug, leading the nation with 1,948 rushing yards and ranking second in rushing average with 139.8 yards.

Facing the country's top-ranked defense on Dec. 6, Sproles dashed for 235 yards on 22 carries in Kansas State's stunning 35-7 upset of No. 1 Oklahoma. In the past four games, ...
