TALLAHASSEE, Fla. _ Florida A&M University plans to continue ironing out its financial processes in 2004 _ everything from hiring more accountants to carry out its fiscal affairs to bringing new bookkeeping software online.

But President Fred Gainous is quick to say that's not all that FAMU will tackle in the year ahead. He has his eyes on improving how many students stay in school through graduation and finding ways to finance new degree programs.

And Gainous and trustees eagerly anticipate completing their first formal evaluation of Gainous, who has been on the job for 18 months.
