When allergies hit you, the normal response is to reach for an antihistamine. But upping your vitamin E intake over the long term may actually help reduce allergic reactions.

One 2002 study reported in The Lancet showed that increased intake of vitamin E reduced levels of the allergy-related antibody "IgE." Every 1-milligram increase in vitamin E intake--up to a maximum of 7 milligrams--resulted in a decrease of more than 5 percent in serum antibody levels.

Good sources of vitamin E include cold-pressed vegetable oils, dark green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains and supplements.
