Dec. 13--The Missouri developer making a last-minute run at building a downtown Raleigh hotel using public money said Friday that he would put up an Embassy Suites that is comparable in size and facilities to what three other developers have proposed.

John Q. Hammons, 84, a longtime hotel developer who is known for building moderately upscale properties, said the deal-closer is this: His total project would cost about $50 million, so he would need only about $10 million in taxpayer money.
