More than 470 soldiers are arriving daily in the United States on two-week leave from tours of duty in Iraq.
But while the military transports them to the Baltimore, Atlanta or Dallas/Fort Worth airports, the soldiers must pay for all travel beyond that. The cost has been an economic hardship for many military families with members on extended deployments in Iraq.
Congress recently approved some funding for soldier travel, but the money is not yet available and may not be enough for all servicemen and women.
