MILWAUKEE _ There was a blue and gold party Monday night at the Bradley Center, and all Notre Dame could do was be impressed.
Because while they occupied the same floor, the Irish were hardly in the same class as Marquette.
Last season, Notre Dame used a 92-71 victory over Marquette at the Joyce Center to propel itself to a 6-0 December record, including three straight victories over Top 15 teams.
Marquette returned the favor Monday, posting a 71-58 victory over the Irish on the first day of the year's final month.
With the victory, 24th-ranked Marquette improved to 5-0. No. 23 Notre Dame dropped to 2-1.
The Golden Eagles were paced by Steven Novak, who scored a career-high 21, and Scott Merritt, who put up a career-high 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
