CHICAGO _ More than one NHL team wouldn't mind starting a game with Jocelyn Thibault in goal, Alexander Karpovtsev and Steve McCarthy on defense and a forward line of Steve Sullivan, Eric Daze and Alex Zhamnov. But those six players, plus Ryan VandenBussche, made up the list of injury updates from Chicago Blackhawks coach Brian Sutter on Monday as the Hawks try to find a way to snap an 11-game unbeaten streak. Their conditions:
Sullivan: A magnetic resonance imaging exam detected no damage to Sullivan's back, and Sutter said Sullivan was day-to-day. Sullivan, who didn't skate Monday, strained his back late in Wednesday's 3-2 loss at San Jose, Sutter said.
Daze: Sutter was hoping Daze could join the team in practice when they returned from the six-game trip, but Daze hasn't been on the ice for the last three days and made another trip to the doctor Monday. Surgery is still a possibility on a herniated disc.
Zhamnov: "It was good to see him sweat," Sutter said of his captain, who has yet to join the team in practice but has begun skating. Sutter said it may be another week before Zhamnov joins the team following back surgery.
McCarthy: Likely out the rest of the week with a strained groin, McCarthy skated briefly Monday. "He felt good, but he didn't feel strong," Sutter ...
