Scott Nichol was asked after Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings, which capped a winless six-game trip, what could be taken from the last two weeks.
"Let me think for a minute," he said.
Indeed, it's hard to find the positives in a winless streak that has reached 11 games. But sometimes the pluses come out of the blue.
Certainly the play in the last two games by Mikhail Yakubov, called up Thanksgiving evening when Steve Sullivan's back began giving him problems, was something the Blackhawks hope carries over.
Yakubov played his first NHL game Friday in Anaheim and scored his first goal. The 10th pick in the 2000 draft had another decent game Saturday against the Kings and showed he might have an NHL future.
"When you play hard like that, good things are going to happen," coach Brian Sutter said. "It's nice to see with him."
