This time of year I start looking for good but reasonably priced wines. And I've discovered Tarapaca.
With most of its portfolio produced from grapes grown in an ancient extinct volcano crater in Chile's Maipo Valley, the wines of Tarapaca offer something for everyone. They've got great taste, good prices and choices for any meal.
Consider the remarkably low-priced 2002 Tarapaca Estate Sauvignon Blanc and the 2002 Tarapaca Estate Chardonnay. In affordable reds, Tarapaca offers substantial quality with the 2001 Tarapaca Estate Carmenere, 2001 Tarapaca Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and 2001 Tarapaca Estate Merlot. For a few dollars more, the 2001 Tarapaca Casablanca Reserva Merlot is a winner. With ripe tannins and super smooth finish, this wine is hard to beat in its price range.
SERVE WITH: I like the sauvignon blanc as an aperitif wine or with shellfish and Asian cuisine. The chardonnay is ideal with chicken, crab, sea bass, halibut, ...
