COLUMBIA, S.C. _ The South Carolina Gamecocks did something preposterous Saturday. They shot 57 percent from the field, yet trailed Kentucky by 25 at the half.
Here was the problem: Kentucky kept dunking. And when the seventh-ranked Wildcats didn't dunk, they got layups. And on those rare occasions when the layups didn't fall, they got put-backs.
So, yes, it is possible to shoot that well and play that badly. The Gamecocks proved it at home, getting drilled by the Wildcats, 87-69.
One stat told it all: At halftime Kentucky had 21 second-chance points (baskets scored off offensive rebounds) to South Carolina's two. ...
