CINCINNATI _ The body talk was guttural, and Marquette center Robert Jackson used his 6-foot-10-inch frame to make a dominating opening statement by scoring three of his team's first four baskets from point-blank range Saturday.
Marquette continued its domination down low for the duration of the game. After falling behind by 22 points in the second half when Jackson put back his own rebound and knocked down the foul shot that followed, Cincinnati made a furious comeback during the final 13 minutes, triggered by reserve guard Tony Bobbitt.
But the 18th-ranked Golden Eagles withstood the counterattack and escaped from the unfriendly confines of the Shoemaker Center with a hard-earned 82-76 victory.
Jackson's 21 points carried Marquette (15-3, 7-1 Conference USA) to its seventh straight win.
"He has gotten much better in the last couple of weeks," coach Tom Crean said of his senior transfer from Mississippi State. "He's gaining confidence like they all are. I thought he had some incredible stretches today, as did a lot of players.
"You don't come into Cincinnati and play a team like this in an environment like this and not have a great team victory."
