TEMPE, Ariz. _ The Miami Hurricanes were boarding a bus to practice the other day when quarterback Ken Dorsey pulled a couple of his teammates aside.

"He said, `What did you guys do last night? Tell me everything,'" said Sherko Haji-Rasouli, Miami's left guard. "He's living vicariously through us."

Haji-Rasouli, a 22-year-old senior, filled Dorsey in on the particulars of a night out in the Valley of the Sun. Nothing sensational. But Dorsey lapped up the details because he's not going out on his own any time soon.

"You figure a quarterback would be a good-looking fellow who can definitely pick up a lady if he wants," said center Brett Romberg, Dorsey's housemate in Coral Gables, Fla. "He doesn't care."

Dorsey would prefer to spend time with his steady girlfriend, Jordan Sims. When he's back on campus, you won't find him in the trendy nightclubs along South Beach. He's usually parked in front of his television set, his tabby cat nearby, picking apart defenses on video football game. Dorsey is often asleep by 9 p.m.

It's a rather unglamorous existence for one of the most successful quarterbacks in major-college history. Dorsey, a reedy 21-year-old Californian, is an excellent student in business management and organization. He is almost boringly consistent--off the field and on.
