FORT LAUDERDALE _ Seventeen weeks ago I imagined the 49ers and Steelers in Super Bowl XXXVII.
Today, three days before the start of the Super Bowl tournament, the Steelers, who have exhibited the consistency of oatmeal, are going pfffft. I'm not sure they can get by Cleveland on Sunday _ at home and with backup Kelly Holcomb at quarterback for the Browns.
But I'll stay with San Francisco in the NFC in this crazy season. The momentum theory says the Niners are damaged after giving up 28 points in the fourth quarter and losing to the Rams on Monday. My theory says the 49ers aren't concerned after playing backups most of the game and holding out several key players who need to be fresh for Sunday's wild-card game at home against the Giants.
In other playoff games:
Green Bay will improve to 12-0 at Lambeau Field in the postseason with an easy victory over the Falcons, who have very little offense once you get beyond quarterback Michael Vick.
The 49ers will have no problem with New York, though that's a wonderful matchup of rookie tight end Jeremy Shockey working against San Francisco linebacker Julian Peterson.
