PASADENA, Calif. _ In the descending darkness, the scoreboard glowing "Oklahoma 34, Washington State 14," Mike Price turned his back on his team and school for the last time, heading to the Rose Bowl locker room alone but for TV cameramen and police.
Out of the stands, a young woman waved an Alabama towel at him.
Fourteen years were over. It left you sad or mad. Or even glad.
Inside the locker room, away from the glare he had created by rudely taking a new job at Alabama, Price hugged his players.
"I'll probably have a sore neck in the morning," he said later. "It kind of hits me now and then what's happened and I'm sure over a couple of glasses of wine tonight with Mike Levenseller (the offensive coordinator) I'll probably cry."
