PASADENA, Calif. _ Night had dropped its curtain over the San Gabriel Mountains when Mike Levenseller walked back onto the floor of the Rose Bowl after Washington State's humbling loss to Oklahoma.
The final score, 34-14, still was twinkling mockingly on the end-zone scoreboard. The Sooners band still was celebrating in the far end zone, when Levenseller, WSU's offensive coordinator, stopped and picked up a paper rose petal.
"This is what I'll remember about Jason Gesser," Levenseller said.
"Roses. His goal when he came was to do this, because we had done it before. He said he'd do it again for us, and he did it. He took us on a two-year ride that was so much fun."
