LANSING, Mich. _ Gov. Jennifer Granholm took her oath Wednesday as Michigan's first female governor, calling for more civic involvement to help the cash-strapped government help families.
"Answer the call for a new Michigan patriotism" to assist seniors, children and even neighborhood schools, she told nearly 4,000 people who streamed into the capital on a cold New Year's Day to witness her historic ascension to the state's highest office.
