Since when do the Wolverines have to sell themselves as Big Ten championship contenders? Isn't that a given every season?
But this is what happens when Michigan is five years removed from a national championship, relegated once again to a second-tier bowl. Before the Wolverines can convince others, they must convince themselves.
"I needed a good game," John Navarre said, "but I needed a win more. This is huge for us. We came here with something to prove after our disappointing finish last year. And I really think that this is going to help us take off going into next season, where I really believe we can accomplish some big things."
