ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. _ He spent his youth in San Diego and didn't see snow until a teen. He had never played football in snow. And so all week Ricky Williams wondered and worried and most of all tried to get weather forecasts to prepare for Sunday's winter wonderland.
"I was preparing for it since (last) Monday," he said. "Every day I'd come in and talk to (running backs coach Joel Collier) about how cold it was going to be. I'd check on my phone to see the forecast up here and look on the computer every chance I had.
"I was a little nervous about it. It was cold and miserable but we did a good job up front and it made my job easy."
Williams ran for a Dolphins single-game record of 228 yards on 27 carries. He broke the Dolphins single-season rushing record set by Delvin Williams. He ran for 45 yards on his first carry for a touchdown and ran for a career-long 55 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.
Snow? Cold? Wind? Williams put a hood on, tucking his dreadlocks inside. He wore extra socks and tights for his legs. But he doesn't like to pile on the clothing. Too uncomfortable.
