GREEN BAY, Wis. _Rod Walker made a snap decision. Javon Walker made a mad dash. Tony Fisher made a name for himself.
Three anonymous Green Bay Packers did as much to beat the Bears on Sunday as Brett Favre. It is a sobering thought for Bear fans who believe the only difference between the two teams is No. 4--Favre, that is, not Brad Maynard.
Two rookies and a trade acquisition_all brought to Green Bay by former Bears player personnel director Mark Hatley_made the plays the Bears couldn't make. More sobering for the Bears is that all three players are backups.
Rod Walker's play was the most innovative.
"Did you see that? I haven't seen that since college," Hatley said.
With his back a yard from Green Bay's goal line and the Bears about to build on a 14-13 third-quarter lead, nose tackle Walker swiped at the center snap by Olin Kreutz and beat quarterback Jim Miller to the ball, causing the fumble that convinced the Bears they were not worthy of an upset.
"Luckily it worked," Walker said. "If it hadn't worked, it possibly could have been a little ugly for me. I actually got my hands on the ball. It came right back to me and I just laid there."
