Lurking in the muddy waters of the BCS has been Southern Cal.
A Pac-10 team is never the ideal choice for bowls east of the Rockies, much less a two-loss Pac-10 team that would eat up a BCS bowl's at-large bid _ in a season in which Notre Dame is eligible.
But now the Trojans _ the highest-ranked two-loss team in the nation _ get their day of reckoning.
Southern Cal and its quarterback _ Carson Palmer _ are the hidden feel-good story of the year.
