Shelby Foote explained the Civil War in intricate detail.
But there was no explaining that fiasco Sunday at Cleveland Browns Stadium, when the Browns laid a dinosaur egg against the Carolina Panthers.
"It's NFL football," wide receiver Kevin Johnson said.
That may be as good an explanation as any _ simply because it doesn't really explain anything.
An uplifting win in New Orleans was followed by a downer of a loss to Carolina, and there were many more questions about the loss than answers.
