Aug. 30--There are three things that many nearby residents have always said they don't like about the proposed Wal-Mart on South Centerville Road, west of Lancaster.
Traffic, traffic and more traffic.
But despite the concerns about what it might do to local roads, a discount supercenter like Wal-Mart would still mean less "peak-hour traffic" -- i.e., rush hour and weekends -- than if your usual shopping center was built there.
That's according to a Wal-Mart traffic engineer, who on Wednesday spelled out the steps that could lessen the supercenter's impact on the nearby road system.
Rodney Plourde, who has represented the national retailer with other proposed stores here, said the discount supercenter would actually mean less traffic than a multi-store shopping center.
Plourde spoke at a Manor Township meeting, as the newest store plan continues to be discussed by the township's zoning board.
