CHICAGO _ Earlier this week there was word that the Baltimore Ravens were considering talking to the Bears about a trade for running back James Allen. He had been supplanted as the starter by Anthony Thomas and would have filled a need for the Ravens.
The phone never rang. And yet Allen, despite the setback to his career that comes as he approaches unrestricted free agency, is privately happy it didn't.
"I want to play but I believe that things are going to work out for the best for me," said Allen, who rushed for 1,120 yards last season. "There's a lot more football to be played here, and we're on a mission."
